Cristal Steuer is a senior strategist for TVP Communications where she brings 13 years of experience in higher education media and public relations, strategic communication, storytelling and newsroom writing and production.
Steuer joins the TVP Communications team after nine years at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., where she directed the college’s national media relations program for the last three years. Prior to becoming director, she served as the media relations manager for six years.
While at Holy Cross, Steuer helped to set new standards for the college’s strategic communications with both internal and external constituents. Responsible for overseeing national media relations and communication efforts for Holy Cross, she played a major role in the college’s 3,500 media stories that were placed in a variety of outlets across the country in 2015-16.
Steuer has forged significant relationships with journalists across the United States and secured feature stories, op-eds, and expert opinions featuring Holy Cross’ students, faculty, programs, and senior administrators in media outlets such as the History Channel’s “Modern Marvels,” CNBC, CNN, New York Times, Boston Globe, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, NPR, Inside Higher Ed and the Associated Press, among others.
A former television news writer and producer in both Boston and Springfield, Mass., Steuer brings calm and professional leadership when breaking news or campus controversies arise and works to communicate news and timely updates to both internal and external audiences.
Steuer has written about how colleges can leverage historic events and has presented at the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education’s (CASE) District 1 conferences on national media relations strategies and on managing town/gown crises.
She was the recipient of a CASE District 1 Rising Star Award and was named to Pulse Magazine’s “28 to Watch in 2008” list. She received her bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Steuer lives in Brookfield, Mass, with her husband and two children.
