How Do I Pitch Thee?

In honor of the chocolate-, flower-filled holiday coming up this week, I wrote a Valentine’s Day poem for my public relations and journalist friends alike.  It’s based on How Do I Love Thee? by Elizabeth Barrett Browning.

How do I pitch thee? Let me start this way
I have a story that has depth and breadth and height
If you send it to your editor, he/she will think it’s out of sight
For it has a beginning, a middle and an end
Your readers/viewers will share it with their friends
It works on the radio, television and website
I promise my source is available and right
They have a story to tell and aren’t just looking for praise.
I pitch thee a piece that offers change
I won’t send you any fake news, please have faith
I pitch thee a story you don’t want to lose
My pitch falls squarely in line with your beat
Thee interviewee will bring smiles and tears if you choose
Thee finished piece will make your audience lose their breath.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
