Facebook Wisdom Shared

This week I was almost done drafting an article on crisis communications for a higher education magazine when I hit writer’s block.  I decided to take a break by checking my Facebook feed and saw a high school friend posted this picture.  It was exactly what I need to finish my article.  Nothing like Facebook wisdom to jumpstart your creative juices!

I’m always fascinated when we are brought in to provide communications counsel to a higher education president, board or administrator and the first request they make is that we help them “spin” the situation.  A record spins, a yo-yo spins, rides at Disneyland spin.  I don’t.  I help tell the truth.

The truth is going to come out at some point.  The best any of us can do is to have it come from us to those who are impacted most.  Nothing begins a new day or starts the healing process like the truth, even if it means backtracking on previous statements, losing face or changing course.  Telling the truth is the right thing to do.

I hope the picture resonates with you, too.
