What’s next on our calendars:

On Dec. 7, Erin will conduct media training for participants in the American Council on Education’s National Women’s Leadership Forum in Herndon, VA.

Teresa will lead a crisis communications session and case study review for the Dean’s Section of the American Association of Law Schools in San Diego, CA on January 6, 2018.

On Feb. 9, 2018, Erin will present “Finding—and Using—Your Voice: A Communications Toolkit for Advocates,” part of Mount Holyoke College’s Advocacy in the Public Domain event series.

Teresa will be at the National Conference on Trusteeship for the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges in San Francisco. She will run the Crisis Management: What is the Role of the Board? Workshop on April 22, as well as facilitate the master class Fake News, Social Media, and Your Institution’s Reputation on April 23.

Erin Hennessy
Last week, thanks to a podcast, I found my new favorite radio station, WNCW. It’s a public radio station that serves western North Carolina, broadcasting from Isothermal Community College (how great is that name?) in Spindale, NC. In addition to carrying NPR content, the station also plays a great range of bluegrass, country, Americana, roots and rock. To get an idea of the station’s mix, take a listen to this Spotify playlist created by the station’s music director.

Kristine Maloney
I know I’ve been laying it on thick with the 60 Minutes suggestions lately, but I’ve got another one for you—an amazing and inspiring story about perseverance and success against all odds. Last Sunday, Steve Kroft reported on Shon Hopwood, a convicted bank robber who served 12 years in prison. Though he dropped out only after one semester in college, he started studying the law in prison and even had a case argued in front of the Supreme Court of the United States while behind bars. Since his release he has published in top journals and most recently, he’s started teaching at Georgetown Law. I’ve been thinking about his story all week.

My love for Glacier National Park is something I’ve blogged, tweeted and posted about many times (I’m actually wearing a GNP t-shirt under my sweater as I type this sentence). I’ve been trying to process that the Sperry Chalet I loved burned down days after my most recent visit. This very thoughtful piece from the park’s ranger so eloquently looks at the power of nature and loss, as well as his love for Sperry. Although I am currently heartbroken, I’ll be back to visit GNP. And thankfully the chalet will be back, too.

Cristal Steuer
I’m a sucker for a story about a celeb bringing joy to sick children. Clay Cook from the Zac Brown Band was treated at Mass. Eye and Ear in Boston recently for an abnormal growth in his ear that could have caused him to lose his hearing. As an act of goodwill the country music star returned to the hospital this week, with his guitar to play for a group of young patients. On a side note, Cook went to Berklee College and his roommate was John Mayer. You know I like my chicken fried… 

Kylie Lacey
I always listen to podcasts when I drive. While most are travel-related, I recently received multiple recommendations to try Crimetown. Season one recounted the seedy mayorship of Providence, Rhode Island by Buddy Cianci, a former prosecutor who had friends in interesting places and made too many promises he couldn’t keep. There are 18 half-hour episodes; I was always upset when my drive ended and I couldn’t immediately listen to the next one. It really sucks you in! Season two is coming out on a yet-to-be-announced date and subject. Get hooked on season one in preparation.
